Oh, friends! I am SO excited to blog this wedding today! I feel like it’s a summer wedding because it is on a lake, but technically we are into September now on the blog! This was like a DREAM, because I’ve always wanted to photograph in Lake George! My husband Derek grew up going to Lake George with family every summer, and the last few summers we have been there together as well.
I was so excited when Emilie and Will contacted me, because Lake George is a place so special to them too! Emilie’s parents have a house on Brant Lake, and also grew up going there a ton! Will also loves anything outdoors, especially fishing, so a lake wedding is so well suited for them! They met in Binghamton at college, but chose to be married at this special place in the Adirondacks.
As soon as I arrived at the Inn at Erlowest, the beauty was just overwhelming. Between the castle venue, and views of the lake in the back, it was stunning. I was so in awe photographing Emilie’s details (and her getting ready) in the Wood Room downstairs…the light in there is amazing! Very Downton Abbey – esque! Emilie’s bridesmaids were getting dressed upstairs, and her best friend came down to help her put on her veil after Emilie’s mom helped her get dressed! Her bridal portraits were STUNNING. Emilie then had a sweet first look with her dad, and then walked out onto the patio where her bridesmaids saw her for the first time too! Such great moments with these girls! They looked so stunning in their blue dresses!
Then, a trolley started arriving to shuttle guests, Will and the groomsmen, and finally Emilie and the bridesmaids over to Diamond Point Community Church. It was such a quaint stone church, exactly the kind you find in Lake George. Their guests were packed in, and it had such an intimate feel to it. After their traditional ceremony, Emilie and Will were pronounced husband and wife! As a surprise, a bagpipe player on the lawn played for them! And their guests mingled on the lawn while we took family photographs and a few portraits of Emilie and Will. Then we headed to the Inn at Erlowest for bridal party portraits!
The weather was just perfect, in the 70s with sun, and we photographed the bridal party down by the water! A boat even passed by and blew their horn to say “Congratulations!” The bridal party got super excited about that, as did Emilie and Will! Then we took the most beautiful portraits of just the bride and groom, down by the water. During their portraits, a butterfly flew by, which was super special to Emilie, as that happened when they got engaged and reminded her of a relative who is no longer here. So special to happen on their wedding day too! Then, Emilie and Will took photos on the dock – some of my FAVORITES!
They joined their guests for cocktail hour on the stone patio of the Inn at Erlowest, under hanging lights, while we captured details inside their reception room. Such a romantic setting! When the new Mr. & Mrs. were introduced, their guests were so happy as they came in to start their first dance! They then sat down for dinner, and heard really sweet speeches from Emilie’s parents and their best friends. It was really nice to hear how highly their friends talked about them and who they are in their lives. Then, the bride and groom did dances with their parents, and the party got started soon after! Half of Emilie’s relatives are Cuban, and oh my can they dance!! They were amazing!
Before the end of the night, we took Emilie and Will out for a twilight portraits, the perfect way to end their evening! They had favors of special cupcakes (his & hers) to give to their guests as they went home.
I just loved being a part of Emilie and Will’s beautiful day! And I hope their wedding story inspires you!
