Happy Tuesday, friends! I hope you are enjoying this SUNSHINE and warmth after our polar vortex last week!! WOW! Boy am I glad that’s over and even if it isn’t spring I am so appreciating this season. I have my first wedding of 2019 next week already – I cannot believe it! So before we spring into 2019, I want to take one last look at 2018 and do one of my favorite posts of the year!
I already posted the best images from 2018 and am so thankful for all of your feedback! It was really such an amazing first season in Central New York. And now here are the images that are super fun to share – all of the behind the scenes images I have of myself working! It’s really fun to see what goes behind making the images that you see and love. Wedding days can be complete craziness sometimes and even for the most organized photographer (which I do try to be!) funny things happen, improvising happens, and we end up with some pretty hilarious memories.
One thing super amazing this year was that my husband Derek became my primary second photographer! He is really amazing and does photography seamlessly, with an eye for light and a natural technical ability. I am so grateful to have him by my side and it has changed things for me big time!! I also worked with 2 of my second photographers from the Hudson Valley, Aaron Berger and Molly Stinchfield – and it was amazing to see them again! And I had my intern Erin Paglia with me through the summer and she was able to come along on some of my engagement sessions on Lake Ontario, and our first wedding at RedBarn20. So these behind the scenes images are largely credit to Erin and also my husband Derek! Thank you both for capturing these memories that I can look back on fondly!
Hope you all love this post!!
I started the season by putting together this amazing styled shoot with LoveWell! This is our friend Dave helping us get our canoe into the water – our canoe would not have made it to Best View Barn without this guy!
The amazing team from Spruce Ridge watching on about to fix the flowers to the canoe!
Okay, time to recap wedding season! This is me shooting Amy’s details outside her mom’s house! Much better background!
Styling the wedding rings always takes a few tries – they topple over easily!
My husband Derek is a pro ring setter upper too! I had him help me balance them for this set up at Jackie & Rich’s wedding!
Sometimes you just gotta take the dress outside! And haha my face behind the camera is so funny!
I had to set up off camera flash to photograph the dresses on this window! Things the mom and bridesmaids who asked me to do it had no idea of haha!
Nope, I wasn’t using my flash here because the natural light was PERFECT!
Setting up Dolores and Dan’s first look! It literally rained until the MOMENT he was set up, and the sun came out! I cannot make this stuff up!
Me practicing “being the bride” for Derek so he could try out this camera angle!
After the first look here for Ellen & Bryan!!
Ceremony time! My second photographer had literally asked that wedding guest to move nicely because he was in the background of all of our shots trying to get iPhone photos…but he was nice and he moved! I was pretending not to notice what was happening lol!
All ready for the ceremony at Isabella & Nate’s wedding! Derek was practicing his shot and made me smile!
Derek being ridiculous and cute before Dolores & Dan’s ceremony started! This furniture was so comfy to sit down quickly!
Church weddings time! Me working alongside a cinematographer! I worked alongside some really great ones this season that made my job easy.
At Ellen & Bryan’s wedding, Molly snagged this shot of me from the balcony!
Another balcony shot by Molly and this one to the right by Erin! I still have to photograph the rest of the bridal party after the bride & groom pass by!
I guess I winked at Isabella and Nate as they passed! I think it was my way of saying good job guys, you nailed it!
Still capturing the bridal party as Christine & Kevin passed!
Waiting for an exit outside the church for Jackie & Rich!
And in the meantime, my husband snagged this cute photo of me laughing! Thanks hon!
Time for bridal party photos! It was 93 degrees here which is why my hair is already up. We got some brief shade for them behind this trolley!
More shade for this bridal party in the entrance of Le Chateau! What was I doing?! I think trying to shorten the line so they were closer together?? Haha!
Love this shot by Erin showing both Derek and I capturing our different angles of the bridal party!
And this one showing my camera bag on the ground haha! It clearly wasn’t in the shot!
Trying to direct this bridal party to clump together for a really close shot with Christine & Kevin!
And, chaos ensues for a minute while I try to direct an entire guest list of people together for a big group shot from the balcony!
My favorite part of the day! Bride and groom portraits! I’m always fixing trains and veils!
Love this one because you can see the exact expression I was capturing!
More fixing trains!
Smiling at the image I just took because yup it was what I was envisioning!
My husband crushing the second shooting game!
Photographing details and taking the bouquet from Ellen so she and Bryan can walk together for my next shot!
Fixing flyaway hair, I do that a lot too! My brides don’t mind, they appreciate it!
What?? Haha I love all of our expressions as it was windy, the sun just came out, and I think we were wondering, “is that the bridal party walking toward us?”
Love this one!
More train fixing!
And hair fixing!
This was just the coolest photo booth ever!
Loved getting these photos with my sweet man! Thank you to Erin and to this sweet cinematographer at Christine & Kevin’s wedding!
Derek took these of me for a blog post I was writing – thanks honey! That’s Isabella’s gorgeous dress behind me on the left, and Derek and I’s wedding venue Red Maple Vineyard behind me on the right!
Looking classy as ever with those camera bags and the sunglasses! Adorable of Derek!
Taking photos of this amazing German and Polish food at RedBarn20!
Testing light before the bride and groom come in at RedBarn20!
And, more light testing before the reception at Le Chateau! These are the cutest!!
Love this one – wasn’t this ballroom dreamy?!
Showing the bride & groom how to cut their cake! I have learned just by photographing it so many times!
Of course, capturing some sunset portraits – my favorite!!
Always fixing the bride’s hair!
Now onto some engagement sessions that Erin was sweet enough to capture for me in Rochester & Lake Ontario in July!
I loved both of these locations so much! Remembering the days where it was warm enough to wear shorts!
I loved the George Eastman House, so so beautiful!
Loved these flowers Isabella brought as a prop! Perfect for her ring shot!
Love the photo I captured of them in this moment!
Another ring shot on grapes – love winery engagements!
St. Joseph’s Park was such a cool location, I loved these stairs too!
Literally deciding where to end their session via Google because our previous plan wasn’t panning out with the light changing!
And where we picked to finish was SO epic!!
More waterfront locations – loved this dock!
Loved how happy Ellen & Bryan were climbing up this hill!
Why was I lifting my feet? Maybe I was telling her to lift her legs too and mirroring? This is hilarious!!!
Thank you Erin for coming and taking photos of me on the job!
This one is one of my favorites ever!
The perfect recap to 2018 season! I can’t wait for 2019 already, friends! Thank you as always for journeying with me!
