I am SO thrilled to post this gorgeous wedding today, #2 from wedding season! I just loved Julie and Jake’s wedding day.
I’ve photographed at Highlands Country Club so many times before, but for some reason, this day I was seeing it through even new eyes. And I know part of that is due to Julie and Jake – they live and work in NYC, but they have such a love of the outdoors that they asked me to focus on outdoor elements in telling their story. They spend a lot of time at Jake’s family’s house in the Catskills, so they definitely jive with a rustic vibe but also bring such a classy style to it, with their love of literature.
When I arrived, Julie and the girls were getting ready in special shirts she bought them – “The Future is Female.” Julie totally believes in women, and said that’s one reason she loved that my business was owned by a woman and she believes in where I’m going – so so sweet of her! I had fun photographing the girls, after all of Julie’s vintage details with her bright pops of pink. Julie’s mom helped her get dressed in the atrium with all the beautiful light, and her girls couldn’t believe how beautiful she looked! Then, after opening a sweet gift from Jake, she headed to meet him for their first look outside on the bridge.
These two are just so sweet together! Jake was stunned when he saw her! And after a few adorable moments together, we took most of their portraits by the tall grasses and reeds – which was such a fun location. And the lighting was PERFECT! I was a happy photographer! Then, we got them ready for their ceremony, which Jake’s mom performed outside on the grass beneath the trees. There were some teary moments, and then, they were pronounced husband and wife! Their guests threw rose petals at them – and I LOVED how fun those moments were! We took photographs with their family and bridal party, and then these two were ready to party!
They entered to jazz music played by their band who are also family friends – and this party was already getting started! They had some sweet toasts by their parents, Jake’s brother, Julie’s best friend, and then Jake’s grandfather sang a song (he’s 96!) and everyone was so touched. Then, after mingling and enjoying the outdoors a little, everyone started dancing! It was such a warm atmosphere. Before the night was over, of course, Julie and Jake went outside with me for a few night portraits – and it was the perfect way to end their evening!
I just loved being a part of their day – hope you enjoy Julie and Jake’s story!
