Oh, friends, I’m THRILLED to share this one today! My first engagement session this winter! I love having an off-season, and while it’s so refreshing to me, I really do miss shooting couples! On one of our recent cross country skis, I was shooting a ton of photos and having Derek jump in them, and I told him, “This landscape is so beautiful…I just miss having couples IN it.” It’s true – to me there is nothing more beautiful to me than stunning scenery with people inside it
SO when it was time to go downstate for Cassie and JJ’s engagement, I couldn’t wait!! I went to high school with JJ, and he was a groomsman in Deidre and Stephen’s wedding. I just loved seeing all the photos he posted with Cassie, and I was so happy when I found out they were engaged! And of course even better was being asked to photograph their wedding!
These two are just adorable! They both went to my high school, but didn’t meet until they were in college through mutual friends. JJ proposed on Long Beach Island, where they spent so much time with family in the summer. And so, when it came time to plan their engagement session, we considered shooting near a body of water, but also, Cassie LOVED Stone Barns at Blue Hill! Especially since she loves to cook and loves to eat healthy. And I love hiking and eating at Stone Barns myself, so of course I was all for it
The day we photographed their engagement (Derek came with me and photographed!) was seriously the most beautiful day. It fell on that recent warm spell where we all thought it was spring – such a blessing! We hiked into the Stone Barns property (yes, she was in a dress and heels) because the path there is amazing – just like the English countryside. And the light couldn’t have been better! Then we photographed with the barns in the background and Derek spotted a field of kale up on the hill…and those spots were definitely my favorites of the day! Cassie and JJ also brought some bubbly champagne and popped it during the shoot – and that was so much fun!
Then, they changed outfits and we hiked into the Rockefeller Preserve. The trails there are amazing if you’ve never done it! We spotted a field of cattails glistening in the sunlight and knew that would be a perfect place to end the shoot. I loved that these two were up for adventuring down some muddy paths to get there – and it was worth it, just wait till you see!
I had the best time with them and already can’t wait for their wedding this spring! Enjoy Cassie and JJ’s story…
