Oh friends! I am beyond thrilled to share this gorgeous day, and this beautiful story with you today!
When I first met Virginia and Ben, I was so encouraged to know they both had hearts to share the Lord at their wedding day and keep Him at the center of their marriage. That is one of the first things Virginia expressed to me, that it was important their photographer could share in that with them and capture with that perspective. And these two have quite the story.
Virginia and Ben started dating at the end of high school, and have been together for 7 years. They had a long distance relationship for most of that time, both serving in the military; Virginia as a nurse in the navy, and Ben in the army and serving in Afghanistan. Ben was deployed twice during their relationship, and of course, each time he came home was sweeter and sweeter for them. Their wedding day was met with all these years of anticipation and of course joy! Ben graduated from West Point, and Virginia and Ben spent so much time together on this campus – so it fit them SO well to be married here.
When I got to Virginia’s getting ready room at the Thayer, I was in love with her wedding dress! The lace sleeves, Grace Kelley and Kate Middleton style was so classy, and so her. All of the details were so classy and beautiful, and it was fun seeing her put her military pins onto her bouquet! You could also see how much love she has with her family, as she gave her mom such a sweet gift, and of course, wearing her mom’s cathedral length veil brought even more tears to both their eyes! When Virginia’s dad saw her for the first time, there was even more emotion – you can tell how he adores her! When it was time to go to the Old Cadet Chapel, all the bridesmaids were ready for a fun day ahead, and everyone was grateful for what a gorgeous day it was for a wedding.
The moment Ben saw his bride for the first time was the sweetest, most tearful glances I’ve ever seen. How they both waited for that moment! They had a beautiful ceremony officiated by Captain Jack, and included taking communion together before they exchanged their vows. Then they were pronounced husband and wife – Captain and his Mrs!
They exited the chapel under the traditional Arch of Swords – it was my first time seeing one of those, so amazing!! Then, we went back into the chapel for photographs with family, and then took the most beautiful photos of Virginia and Ben by the big doors and the white columns. We took the whole bridal party to Trophy Point, a famous lookout point at West Point with a stunning view of the Hudson Valley!! It was such a stunning view that Virginia decided to walk on the stone wall in heels to get a photo with Ben up there with that backdrop – loved her sense of adventure We took more photos on the West Point’s famous plain, and walked by so many students in full uniform who congratulated Ben and Virginia! And we had enough time to go to a lake where they had so many dates together, and take the sweetest photographs of them. What a gorgeous view!! When we went back to the Thayer Hotel, we had to take a few last photos there with all the beautiful architecture!
When their reception started, you could tell this one was going to be a party! They had such a sweet first dance, and dances with their parents afterward. Virginia’s dad welcomed the guests, and then everyone ate, mingled, danced, and even went outside to play a little corn hole! There were sweet speeches, and then tons more dancing with their friends! It was amazing to see how many people were there in uniform who have faithfully served our country. What an honor to be with them, and of course see them have so much fun!
It was such a joy to be a part of Virginia and Ben’s story, and I wish these two every blessing in their marriage! Enjoy their photographs!
